Melodia and Harmonia Choral Educator Job Description

The Pittsburgh Girls Choir (PGC) part-time Choral Educator works with the artistic director to prepare for and conduct Melodia (K-2nd grades) and Harmonia (3rd-5th grades) in weekly rehearsals and performances. The Choral Educator collaborates with the choir staff to meet the artistic goals, objectives and long-range plans of PGC.
Founded in 2005, the PGC provides a supportive community committed to artistic excellence through an exemplary music education program for girls in Kindergarten through twelfth grades. The PGC welcomes girls of all races, ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds through a sliding-scale tuition and scholarship support. Additional PGC activities include the Women of Song program, community outreach through our annual Sing for Service program, and various summer programs.
Qualifications:
- Kodaly or Conversational Solfege training – minimum Level 1
- Experienced music educator with a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Music or Music Education
- Experience working with children from K-5th grades
- Preferred minimum of one years’ experience in choral conducting / music education
- Energetic and engaging with eagerness to grow/develop the choir program
- Proficiency in piano / keyboard skills preferred
- Strong organizational, problem solving, and positive communication skills
- Skills in both independent and collaborative work.
- Team player able and willing to work with a group of 5-10 artistic and administrative staff.
- Willing and able to obtain necessary clearances
Required Documentation: Standard costs for clearances will be covered by the PGC upon successful clearance certification.

Melodia and Harmonia Choral Educator Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Artistic Director on curriculum planning, season planning, and concert preparation
- Recruit and evaluate singers with the Artistic Director
- Conduct and prepare weekly rehearsals Tuesdays 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Conduct performances & other events as needed
- Regular meetings with the Artistic Director as needed
- Weekly emails and as needed communication with choir families
- Develop and maintain strong collegial relationships with PGC staff
- Sit on at least one committee (Fundraising, Marketing, Alumni, etc) and participate in those meetings and projects as a staff representative.
Proposed fixed dates for the 2026-2027 season are (but not limited to):
December 5, 2026 – Holiday Concert
December 12, 2026 – Sing for Service (morning concert at nursing home)
March 2027 – Harmonia Retreat (Saturday morning only)
May 8, 2027 – Training Choirs Spring Concert
Competitive Salary will be determined upon education and experience; opportunities for growth in the part- time position. This position may be broken into two teachers depending on qualifications and availability.

Melodia and Harmonia Teaching Assistant

The PGC Melodia and Harmonia Teaching Assistant is an integral part of our artistic team. The Harmonia Teaching Assistant is responsible for assisting our choirs for K-5th graders. The Melodia/Harmonia Teaching Assistant will be expected to work closely with the Melodia/Harmonia Choral Educator at all rehearsals, concerts, and events.
The ideal candidate will:
- Enjoy working with children, specifically K-5th graders
- Have a positive and playful approach to music learning
- Have intermediate piano skills
- Have knowledge of Solfege (movable doh)
- Have vocal skills including:
- Healthy vocal production
- Good intonation
- Ability to sing with head voice
- Be able to model well for children
- Be available during rehearsals, 5:00 – 8:00pm on Tuesday evenings
- Be available during concerts and dress rehearsals
- Be willing and able to obtain necessary clearances

Social Media Coordinator Position

The Pittsburgh Girls Choir (PGC) is seeking a part‑time Social Media Coordinator to strengthen our online presence, celebrate our singers, and expand community engagement. This role supports PGC’s mission to provide exceptional choral education and performance opportunities for girls in the Pittsburgh region.
Responsibilities
- Content Creation — Develop engaging posts, short-form videos, and stories for Facebook, Instagram, and more that highlight rehearsals, performances, community events, and choir culture.
- Social Media Management — Maintain a consistent posting schedule, monitor comments/messages, and uphold PGC’s brand voice.
- Event Coverage — Capture photos and videos at select rehearsals, concerts, and outreach events.
- Analytics Tracking — Monitor engagement metrics and provide monthly insights to the Artistic Director and administrative team.
- Community Engagement — Interact with partner organizations, families, and supporters to grow PGC’s digital community.
Qualifications
- Experience managing social media for an organization, brand, or personal creative portfolio
- Strong writing and visual storytelling skills
- Familiarity with Canva, CapCut, or similar content tools
- Ability to attend occasional evening/weekend events
- Passion for youth arts, music education, or nonprofit work is a plus
Hours & Compensation
- Part‑time: 5–8 hours per week
- Hybrid: Remote work with occasional in‑person event coverage
- Compensation: Hourly rate commensurate with experience
